What is a Grievance?
What is a grievance?
A grievance is an actual violation of a provision of our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA or ‘contract.’), binding past practice, or just cause for discipline. If an actual violation does not exist, you may only have a “gripe.”
A grievance has one or more of the following bases:
- Violates a contract section.
- Discipline is rendered without just cause.
- Event in which a Flight Attendant is treated disparately/unfairly/discriminatorily.
- Violates past practice.
If you feel you have a grievance, you will need to:
- Collect evidence of violation. This can be screen shots of schedule, call logs, disciplinary paperwork issued by the company, emails, or any documentation that supports your grievance.
- Write a detailed statement of the event. This should be done in a timeline and include the Section, paragraph letter and subsections. (Ex: Section 14.2.B. or Section 7.F.1.a.)
- Email all information to your LEC President within 21 days of the event. (There is a 30 day time limit to filing grievances. Getting the information to your LEC President in 21 days gives them time to finalize the grievance for filing.)
To file a grievance, please contact your local council president.
